food for thought: “The greatest tool, perhaps, in our search for a better life, is the practice of wanting what we have. It is our relentless discontentment, and our constant demand that life be somehow different, that keeps us trapped in misery.” -Lynne Forrest

loved finding this pearl on FB: The highest courage is to dare to be yourself in the face of adversity. Choosing right over wrong, ethics over convenience, and truth over popularity. These are the choices that measure your life. Travel the path of integrity without looking back, for there is never a wrong time to do the right thing. –Unknown

Top 10 New Year’s Resolutions!

10. Read more books Americans are so consumed by electronic gadgets, computer screens, and digital media. Many people no longer pick up a good old fashion hard or paperback book. This year is a great year to grab a blanket, a cup of coffee and sit back and read a good book. Can’t read a whole book? Try a magazine or journal like The New Yorker or The Economist. These have shorter articles to get your feet wet!

9. Quit smoking This one makes the list every year and for obvious health reasons. If you tried to quit before and failed, it is time to try again! On average, smokers try about four times before quitting for good. Ask your doctor for help or try some of the over the counter nicotine patches.

8. Find a new job The economy has caused many people to settle for jobs they are not happy with and many of these people will be looking for something new this year. Try looking online. It’s a great ways to look at many places and different kinds of jobs all from the comfort of your house at any time! Another resource is a job placement center or aka head hunters. The services are free and someone else is doing all the work!

7. Enjoy life more With hectic schedules and stressful lifestyles, millions of Americans desire to enjoy life more. Take up a new hobby, for example, learn to ski or play chess. Go to the theater more often or enjoy a day at a local spa. There are countless ways to find greater joy in life and increase your quality of living!

6. Volunteer The joy one finds helping others is the reason so many people have vowed to get out and help more this year. There are food kitchens, churches, schools, community service agencies and many other opportunities for you to volunteer your time and talents.

5. Manage time better Our world moves at a very fast pace and time management is essential to balance work, family, pleasure, hobbies and to enjoy quality time. You can buy a day planner or google time management tips if you want to better manage your time in 2012.

4. Learn new things Learning how to do something new can be a fun and exciting adventure. Buy a book, take a class or utilize the millions of online resources to learn new things this year.

3. Get out of debt Is debt a source of stress in your life? Millions of Americans have resolved to spend this year getting out of debt. Visit a debt counselor or money manager if this is your resolution.

2. Get in shape or lose weight Exercise and eating healthy has been associated with more health benefits than anything else. In short, exercise keeps you feeling and looking better. Join a gym or find a partner to exercise with.

1. Spend more time with friends and family 50% of Americans vowed to spend more time with friends and family this year. Make plans to get in touch with old friends and set aside quality family time. You will be glad you did! Happy New Year!

sharing from a FB quote: Today I am grateful for the wisdom of knowing that my personal power lies in the power to choose my own thoughts. This power to choose my thoughts and my focus of thoughts and where they dwell, is the only thing in life I have control over. Whenever I find myself feeling frustrated, angry, sad, fearful, discouraged, excited, joyous, I now know that the source of these feelings is the thought I am thinking at that moment. AND at any given moment, I can change my thoughts, change my focus, therefore change my feeling. Everything we seek, we do so because we believe it will make us happy, make our lives easier, better somehow. Today I know that I do not have to wait for that thing I am seeking. Today, I can feel good, feel happy, feel contentment, feel satisfaction generated by the thoughts I think… or not. I can also feel crappy, frustrated, discouraged, fearful, angry, etc. if my thoughts are those that create those kinds of feelings. It is always a choice.

Saw this yesterday and thought how wise: “If, in a fit of anger (even justified!), I cut myself off from you whom I love, then who do I really hurt? There’s nothing you can do that can keep me from loving you because to do so is to mistreat myself!” from L Forrest

Be inspired! “There is no such thing as a faithless person; we either have faith in the power of love, or faith in the power of fear. For faith is an aspect of consciousness. Have faith in love, and fear will lose its power over you. Have faith in forgiveness, and your self-hatred will fall away. Have faith in miracles, and they will come to you. Amen.” ~Marianne Williamson
